ONLY THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH!
Good craftsmanship and design have, since the company was established in 1949, been a core competency at Stilling, and it still is today, where the 3rd generation has taken over. Each and every product which leaves our workshop in Brøndby, Denmark, reflects our uncompromising approach to quality, function and aesthetics.
We develop new products and solutions with the customers, who will furnish their home with our design, in mind. A curtain track or curtain rod must be able to match the other design elements in the interior. And it must work perfectly.
A curtain track from Stilling can be tailored, both in terms of shape, colour and function. Whether it is super-elliptical, has integrated LED lighting, motor with voice control, bespoke bending – or a customised, unique colour.
PART OF OUR DNA
Product development is one of the cornerstones of Stilling’s DNA. We love to tinker with functionality and design, and aim to constantly refine and rethink products and processes – always with respect for people and the environment.
We select and purchase our raw materials with the utmost care and take pride in being able to offer our customers products made from the best materials, in the best quality. Products, which are produced in a responsible manner as well. For us, sustainability means considering environmental impact for both our product design, production processes and in our business model. But sustainability is also timeless design and durable, high quality solutions.
Our assortment of tracks contains around 30 profiles. Several of these were designed back in the 80s and 90s and are considered as classics among architects, interior designers and our many talented customers in Denmark and abroad. Since 1963 we have sold our oldest track, the AP 0511. The AP 0511 will be retired this year but is replaced by a series of new profiles and an expansion of the portfolio of tracks made in Hydro CIRCAL® 75% reused aluminium.
Our broad portfolio of tracks contains around 30 profiles. Several of these were designed back in the 80s and 90s and still remain firm, global favourites among architects, interor designers and among our many talented customers. Our oldest track dates back to th 60’s.
For decades Stilling had its own plastic production, but some years ago we outsourced the machines to a local plastic manufacturer, which today handles the primary production of our most important plastic components.
Even though the machines are gone, the knowledge of the raw material is intact, and our extensive know-how in the field helps us, not only to make the best choices regarding material composition, but also regarding the handling and recycling of the waste product. Our latest initiative is a collaboration on the development of accessories in reused nylon.
ACCESSORIES IN 100% REUSED NYLON
We are perpetually searching for new materials that can help reduce our footprint. As a recent addition, we have started using 100% reused nylon as a replacement for conventional plastic in selected accessories such as gliders, end caps and brackets.
Before the launch, the new material has been artificially aged using UV radiation at the Danish Technological Institute, to ensure that the durability is optimal.
The new accessories in reused nylon have been awarded our SUSTAIN™ label, so you can easily identify them in our catalogues.
Aluminum is the third most common element in the earth’s crust after oxygen and silicon. In other words there is more aluminum than iron in this world and the resources can last for many generations. Aluminum weighs only 1/3 of steel (2.7 g/cm3) and the low weight means reduced energy consumption during transport.
Aluminum reacts with the oxygen in the air and forms a protective oxide layer, which makes it corrosion resistant. This means less maintenance and need for replacement.
Aluminum is 100% recyclable and it only takes 5 percent of the energy needed to produce the primary metal to recycle it. To this day 75% of all the aluminum produced is still in use.
Aluminum is very flexible and can be shaped to almost anything. In short, it is suitable for a wide range of purposes that require reusability, strength and low weight.
The problem with aluminum is that it has a large environmental footprint due to production and transport conditions. Therefore, we are gradually converting our curtain track production to aluminum with a high proportion of recycled materials, produced using renewable energy only – such as the Hydro CIRCAL.
The aluminium used for all our SUSTAIN™ branded curtain tracks is a special blend, called Hydro CIRCAL® 75R.
Hydro CIRCAL® consists of min. 75% reused (end-of-life) material. That is, material which already have been used once before. In addition, it has a maximum of 25% conventional aluminium.
The unique mixture results in aluminium with a lower CO2 footprint which can still be bent and milled. And then it is extruded exclusively using renewable energy.
The CO2 emission from Hydro CIRCAL® is just 2.3 kg. per kg. aluminium, which by comparison is 73% less than the corresponding conventional aluminium we consume in Europe (source: IAI, EAA, Norsk Hydro)
Hydro CIRCAL® 75R is DNV, GL and epd® certified.
All our tracks are offered in selected collection colours, but can be supplied in all standard RAL and NCS colours, so that the solution can be adapted to the specific project and wishes of the customer.
